A Birth Doula

I believe that one of the most important roles of a birth doula to be a supportive advocate of the parents to be. As a birth doula I will help you to have the birth of your choice, supporting, empowering and reassuring you through your labour and birth.

Of course, not all women need the same amount of support or nurture through their labour and birth, whatever your needs or birth plans I can help. My services vary greatly according to the needs of the mother and father. My role as a doula is flexible to fit in with the given situation as the type of support will differ for a first time mum to that of a woman who has children already. Every birth is unique and therefore every woman's experience is also unique.


What happens & when?

During the last 4-6 weeks of your pregnancy we will meet at least twice to discuss and/or create a birth plan, practice breathing techniques, positions for labour and birth and any worries you may have; and of course, you can ring me at any time. The purpose is to build a good relationship with understanding and trust and to help prepare you for this very special time. During labour I will be there to offer help and suggestions, encourage medical staff to implement your plan wishes and to remind you about breathing, relaxation, movement and positioning techniques. My most important role during labour and birth is to provide a nurturing environment, give continuous support and reassurance, helping you to feel comfortable with your decisions and to enable you to have the birth you want. I will support you however long your labour and birth, with no shift changes!

After your baby(ies) is born I will  follow up with a couple of postnatal visits to help you settle at home with your new baby.

Post natal doula

Post natal doula services vary according to the mother or the family's needs. I offer practical support to the mother and family. Depending on your birth experience I can offer help and knowledge if you are finding breast feeding difficult, bathing and dressing your baby and offer an experienced knowledge base if you have ‘silly’ little questions or worries. As a post natal doula I can help with the housework, older siblings, school run, shopping, or even cook your supper.  I will encourage you and your partner to care for yourselves too. I offer a very flexible serves that is designed to fit with each unique family situation, I will be there when and where you need me most.
